New Music Tuesday: Elastic Heart by Sia

So you know how I listen to BBC Radio 1 to stay up to date on new music headed our way. Last week they debuted another single from the Catching Fire soundtrack – Elastic Heart by Sia featuring The Weeknd and Diplo. The first few stanzas of Elastic Heart actually reminded me of Rhianna, but then it’s totally Sia.. The song has a very catchy refrain and you’ll find yourself swaying to the steady thundering beat behind the words, and then get swept away by the spell of The Weeknd’s falsetto. What

New Music–CHVRCHES

It’s new music Tuesday for the Scottish trio CHVRCHES. I love this play on letters. And yes, I agree with this BBC article – you must use all caps when writing, err typing their name. (And don’t forget the “E”) Today their debut studio album Bones of What You Believe is released in the States. The group is electropop, but if you like Arcade Fire or Bastille or Depeche Mode, you’ll probably like CHVRCHES. As an author, I’m always on the lookout for new music to listen to while I run through a

Music I Love: London Grammar

Oh I am in LOVE, LOVE, LOVE with the indie UK trio, London Grammar!! Lead vocalist Hannah Reid has a voice that will totally remind you of Florence Welch and every single track I’ve heard is amazing. Their new album If You Wait is available today!! Lucky for some of you, they’re kicking off a US Tour at the end of September with stops in major cities like Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and Philadelphia. Check out their official website and full tour schedule here. What do you think of their

I Want Crazy

Hunter Hayes’ video for I Want Crazy is what I try to capture in the young adult novels that I write. That whirlwind kind of love that consumes you so the other person is all you can think about. It also makes you do crazy things, like sneak into the public pool, or sneak up on a rooftop or catch a plane on a moments notice to be with the one you love because you can’t stand being apart. Yeah – that’s what I write about. That got me to thinking about the craziest thing I did as a teen. I’ll

New to Me Music – Paper Route

I’m not sure where I first heard Paper Route, but I love, love, love them! This is an indie rock band that hails from Nashville, TN. They have some pretty deep lyrics, a cool and an unpretentious vibe reminiscent of some 80’s bands like Tears for Fears and Mr. Mister. They released their newest album, “Peace of Wild Things” (isn’t that a cool title?) in September. Here’s their latest music video. It kinda makes you go hmmmm…. Enjoy!! Artist of the Week–Scissor Sisters

Magic Hour, the highly anticipated album from Scissor Sisters releases in the UK on May 14th and to the U.S. on June 5th. It’s kind of weird to me since they ARE from the U.S. But they do have that British Indie sound. Lucky for us in the States, they have some U.S. dates on their tour schedule. Check them out in a city near you. In the meantime, here’s the video for “Only The Horses.” You’ll find yourself tapping your foot to the beat and singing the chorus. Enjoy. Video from

Brit Artist of the Week - Discopolis

While listening to BBC Radio Scotland for my daily dose of Scottish immersion, I heard a cool song that I think you’ll enjoy by Discopolis. They are an “electro-indie” band that hails from Edinburgh. Their latest song, “Zenithopia” was released earlier this month. What the heck does “zenithobia” mean? I couldn’t find a definition, but using my deductive reasoning, I’d say it’s a combination of the following two words: ze·nith (znth) - n. 1. The point on the celestial sphere that is directly

Brit Artist of the Week–Ed Sheeran

Last week Ed Sheeran won the Best Male Solo Artist at the Brit Awards. His performance of his hit song “Lego House” was masterful. If you’ve never seen the official video for “Lego House” you’ll want to check it out. Harry Potter fans will immediately recognize someone they’ve grown to love. Be sure to watch the entire video because the last minute or so will give you a chuckle. Ed Sheeran - Lego House (Official Video) from Ed Sheeran on Vimeo. Brilliant huh?
