Sporty Girls Matter

Today we celebrate the 31st National Girls & Women in Sports Day. How cool is that, huh?! A day for us sporty girls!! This year’s theme is Empowering Opportunity. My hope is that all girls who want to play sports, will get that chance; because through sports, girls can learn the power of teamwork, leadership skills, and sporty girls grow up to be self-confident women. Our school district recognizes their female high school athletes with a #NGWSD program. In fact, in 2014, little ‘ole me was

A #TBT to #PennRelays

Some of my greatest memories, and dare I say – moments, in my athletic career were at The Penn Relays. Today kicks of the 121st year of the three day relay carnival. What’s so special about Penn? It’s the 45,000+ fans crammed into University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field, cheering the runners on for three days of amazing and intense competition. It’s running, not for yourself, but for the three other girls (or guys) on your relay. (This is one of my favorite photos from Penn. It was my senior

How Champions are Made

Today is National Student Athlete Day. A day to recognize student-athlete achievement both on and off the playing field. For me, being a student-athlete was one of the best parts of my college experience. Not only did I gain an instant family by being a part of Villanova’s track team, but it also helped me do well in school. I was on a team of like-minded individuals all trying to do well both on and off the track. We all shared a dream, a goal, a vision. And the heart of champions.. Happy

Very Inspiring Blogger Award–AKA Stuff About Me

One of my writing buds, the awesome Christi J. Whitney, author of Grey (coming in April from HarperVoyager!!), tagged me for the “Very Inspiring Blogger” Award. You can read Christi’s post and learn about what makes her so awesome here. The rules are simple: List seven things about yourself and then tag others to do the same. So, let’s get this party started… 1. As much as I’d like to think I’m one of the cool kids, I’m a total nerd. I’m the one that loved school and taking tests. Bring on those

Rambling About: I Remember Running by Darcy Wakefield

I Remember Running: The Year I Got Everything I Ever Wanted - and ALS by Darcy Wakefield My rating: 5 of 5 stars Let me start of by saying - ALS SUCKS. SUCK - SUCK - SUCK - SUCKS! (Yes, I'm yelling! It's that bad!) Almost three years ago, my mother-in-law lost an incredibly short battle with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease). I was with her during her final days and hours and let me just say again - ALS SUCKS!! So... I've had I Remember Running, and another memoir about ALS on my

Rambling About: The Third Lap

Most Wednesday nights, our running group meets at the high school track for #WorkoutWednesday. I haven’t consistently worked out on the track in years and I just love stepping onto the spongy all-weather track and the scent of sun-baked rubber floating in the air. (Did you know synthetic rubber tracks are also called tartan tracks? Gotta love the pseudo reference to Scotland!!) It brings back fond memories of killer track workouts at Villanova. Sometimes I swear our coach was trying to kill us.

I See London…

Don’t I wish! I have been watching the first three stages of the Tour de France, so have gotten to see a lot of gorgeous England and today they finished Stage 3 in front of Buckingham Palace. But this post is not about the TDF or about London. It’s about me getting to ride in the Press Truck for the 45th AJC Peachtree Road Race. My job – spotting the elite women for the live television coverage of the race. If you aren’t from Atlanta, you might not know that with its 60,000 participants, the

Happy National Running Day!

What do you think of the cool badge I made for National Running Day? Get yours here. .And after you get creative customizing your badge, check out the other cool ways you can commemorate National Running Day. Tonight is our usual Wednesday Night Workout with our running group. We go to the high school track and pretend we’re fast. Last week I did this cool mile progression workout. It consisted of three sets of 400/300/200 at my goal mile pace with 1 min between reps and 4 min between sets. Not

What’s Your Passion?

I realized a couple years ago that my passion is girls and sports. Sports changed my life and I can honestly say, that without sports, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Sports has taught me perseverance, persistence and drive for perfection. Teamwork, goal setting and leadership. To be confident, fearless and mentally tough. And there are countless other skills and lessons participating in sport has given me, helping prepare me for a successful career in business. Because sports has played such an
