How to combat #TDF withdrawal

Today is a sad day. It’s the first day since July 5th I don’t have four hours of the Tour de France to watch. It’s the first day I won’t be checking Tour Tracker to get behind the scenes info on the race and perhaps the worst part is - no more daily Backstage Pass videos from the guys at Orica Green Edge. What’s the perfect cure for post-TDF depression? Chocolate. And lucky for all of us TDF junkies, today is National Milk Chocolate Day. Not that I (or my fellow cycling enthusiasts) need a

July 14 is not just ANY day…

Today the French commemorate the storming of the Bastille and the start of the French Revolution with La Fête Nationale, or what those of us in America call Bastille Day. My first visit to Paris missed La Fête Nationale by a week, which I’m still kind of bummed about because from what I hear, it’s quite the party that starts off in the morning with a military parade on the Champs-Elysées and the evening is capped off with a massive fireworks display. Sadly, I’m not spending July 14th in Paris,

Rambling About: The Visceral Tuneage of Beacon

The best music is music that can make you think as well as feel, sounds that are as visceral as they are cerebral. And the best love songs are those that acknowledge that the power of human sexuality can be just as terrifying as it is thrilling, that the passion that leads us to love can also lead us into dark, dark places. – Ghostly International Uhmm, yeah! Love that description. Don’t you? If you read this blog, you know I love “moody” music that makes me want to put the headphones on, crank

Tonight is our usual Wednesday Night Workout with our running group. We go to the high school track and pretend we’re fast. Last week I did this cool mile progression workout. Rambling About: Pro cyclist Alison Powers’ historic win

I am a huge professional cycling fan and watch cycling every chance I can get. In fact, my latest young adult novel features a cyclist on a junior developmental squad. But back to the blog… Women’s cycling isn’t featured as much as men’s cycling on television, so I was super excited that TourTracker was broadcasting the women’s race at the US Pro Cycling National Championships. On Memorial Day, I tuned in to watch the action go down. And I was not disappointed. I witnessed history when Alison

Rambling About: Looking for Alaska

Looking for Alaska by John Green My rating: 4 of 5 stars If only we could see the endless string of consequences that result from our smallest actions. But we can't know better until knowing better is useless. ― John Green, Looking for Alaska Here's another book that had been on my "too read" list for quite awhile, and another book that I listened to on audio. The narration was exceptional, which helped the listener get into the story - so if you can get your hands on the audiobook version, give

Rambling About: The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart My rating: 4 of 5 stars Secrets are more powerful when people know you've got them. ― E. Lockhart, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks I happened upon this book while perusing the audiobook section of the library and I'm so thrilled that I did. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the premise of this book - A book of secrets, a secret society of boys a girl wants to infiltrate and better yet - prove that a girl is just as capable if not

Rambling About: An Abundance of Katherines

An Abundance of Katherines by John Green My rating: 4 of 5 stars What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable? ― John Green, An Abundance of Katherines I thoroughly enjoyed this John Green novel. If you get the chance to listen to it on audiobook, I highly recommend doing so. The different voices Jeff Woodman used in narrating the book truly brought the story to life. (The narration gets five stars!!) As for the novel itself - loved the characters and all
