Writing Teen Romance

This was supposed to be about inspiration…

So I like to take pictures. My family hates it. I’m the one at all events with a camera slung around her neck saying, “Hold it. Let me get a picture.” Followed by moans and groans and rumbling of discontent. My little guy has resorted to “ruining” every picture by making a funny face. Who knows how goofy our Christmas cards are going to look. A part of our Fall tradition is making a trek to the pumpkin farm in search of a “Great Pumpkin” of our own. Of course – I have to take tons of photos

What I’m Watching

I really need an extra hour in my day. I mean, it’s October and there are a ton of new fall television shows for me to get sucked into. Have you started watching any cool new shows this season? In years past, I couldn’t wait for the special TV Guide Fall Preview issue. I’d read the blurb about each show and circle with a highlighter which shows were “Must See.” Then I’d plan my life around which shows were on which nights. Can I tell you how happy I am about DVRs and being able to watch shows On

Sometimes Having a Dog Really Bites

Owning a dog is a learning experience and an exercise in extreme patience. We have an eight-month-old Portuguese Water Dog. Porties are hypo-allergenic, active, sweet natured and lovable dogs. What you might not know is that they are a notoriously mouthy breed. When our breeder repeatedly warned me about this trait, I thought, okay, the puppy will bite at first, but we’ll just train her. I’ll make sure I have a lot of chew toys and we’ll be fine. Eventually she’ll outgrow it. Well mouthy is an

What not to do on a treadmill

I tend to do a lot of runs on the treadmill since I have two kids who aren’t old enough to babysit themselves and I have to squeeze in workouts whenever I can. I’m the kind of runner that doesn’t mind the treadmill. I don’t get dizzy or disoriented. Plus, I really love being able to catch up on movies or television programs while getting in my run. Right now I’m watching “The Class” which was an Academy Award nominee for best Foreign Language Film in 2009. It’s in French with English subtitles

Happy Mother’s Day

Today is bittersweet. I am lucky to be a mom to two wonderful kids, who spoiled me. Early this morning, while I went for a run, they went to the bagel shop to pick up one of my favorite breakfast foods – bagels of course. My amazing husband made bacon that melted in my mouth and scrambled eggs, just the way I like them. Add fresh pineapple and a cup of tea… perfect. Well almost. The only thing missing was my mom-in-law, who would always pop in on Mother’s Day morning with a plant or flower for

Artist of the Week–Scissor Sisters

Magic Hour, the highly anticipated album from Scissor Sisters releases in the UK on May 14th and to the U.S. on June 5th. It’s kind of weird to me since they ARE from the U.S. But they do have that British Indie sound. Lucky for us in the States, they have some U.S. dates on their tour schedule. Check them out in a city near you. In the meantime, here’s the video for “Only The Horses.” You’ll find yourself tapping your foot to the beat and singing the chorus. Enjoy. Video from

The Writer’s Voice

Do you all watch The Voice? Well I’m participating in an event called “The Writer’s Voice”. Check out the skinny on Brenda Drake’s blog. In following the instructions, I need to post my query blurb and first 250 words on my blog. Yikes!! It’s going to be out there – for the whole world to see. *Taking several deep breaths* Okay – here goes… Wish me luck! (I'd love to hear your thoughts. Please click on the comment link below.) QUERY BLURB: Seventeen-year-old senior, Kyra Siefert races toward two

A Good Reason for A Blog-cation

Going into this year I had the best intentions to write a blog post on a weekly (if not more often) basis. I had grand plans… a weekly post on music I love, including new-to-me artists and another on an interview with a fearless female athlete or another good role model for young women. And then she came along… an eight-week-old Portuguese Water Dog we named Fergie. I’ve never owned a puppy and boy is she a lot of work. But she’s soooo dag on cute!! Between stalking her to make sure she doesn’t

Brit Artist of the Week - Discopolis

While listening to BBC Radio Scotland for my daily dose of Scottish immersion, I heard a cool song that I think you’ll enjoy by Discopolis. They are an “electro-indie” band that hails from Edinburgh. Their latest song, “Zenithopia” was released earlier this month. What the heck does “zenithobia” mean? I couldn’t find a definition, but using my deductive reasoning, I’d say it’s a combination of the following two words: ze·nith (znth) - n. 1. The point on the celestial sphere that is directly
