What’s Your Passion?

I realized a couple years ago that my passion is girls and sports. Sports changed my life and I can honestly say, that without sports, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Sports has taught me perseverance, persistence and drive for perfection. Teamwork, goal setting and leadership. To be confident, fearless and mentally tough. And there are countless other skills and lessons participating in sport has given me, helping prepare me for a successful career in business. Because sports has played such an

So I was in this city…called San Antonio

A couple weekends ago, the fam and I made the trip to The Lone Star State for my daughter’s gymnastics competition. Instead of coming home on Sunday, we detoured to San Antonio to check out that cool city. I didn’t realize how big San Antonio is. (It’s actually one of the ten largest cities in the US!) This summer San Antonio will host the annual conference for the Romance Writers of America , July 23 – 26. Sadly, I won’t be going this year, but at least I can say I’ve been to San Antonio. Here

céad míle fáilte

I found this entryway to a historic pub in downtown Savannah, GA. In Irish Gaelic, céad míle fáilte means: a hundred thousand welcomes I can only imagine all the stories behind this door…

Teen Book Review: How I Live Now

How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff My rating: 3 of 5 stars "I noticed that once you realize someone's watching you it's pretty hard not to find yourself watching them back." -- Meg Rosoff, How I Live Now I first heard about this story after hearing a review on BBC Radio 1 about the film adaptation of the story. I have yet to see the film, but after reading the book, it's definitely on my "To Watch List." But back to the novel. Will we ever be able to give half stars, because here's another book I

The Suckiness of IT Band Syndrome

Post half marathon, aside from motivation issues due to the cold weather, I’ve been plagued with IT band issues. For those not in the know, the iliotibial (IT) band is the ligament that runs along the outer thigh from the hip to the shin. It’s very painful if it gets tight or inflamed, and that’s what happens when you don’t stretch, like me. Or when you get old, like me. Ha! Speaking of old, I’ve been officially retired from Track & Field long enough to get inducted into the Hall of Fame at my

Review: Sold

Sold by Patricia McCormick My rating: 4 of 5 stars “This affliction--hope--is so cruel and stubborn, I believe it will kill me." -Patricia McCormick, Sold This is a book you wish was just a work of fiction, but sadly there are young girls living this horrifying reality. Sold is about Lakshmi, a thirteen year old Nepali girl who wants to help her struggling family buy a tin roof for their mountain hut and other necessities. She believes she is being taken to the city to work as a housekeeper so

Review: Anna and the French Kiss

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins My rating: 4 of 5 stars I was proposed to in Paris, so Paris holds a special place in my heart and I tend to agree (yes, I'm partial) that it is one of the most romantic cities in the world. With that disclaimer out of the way, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Anna was totally relatable as a teen who is uprooted her senior year and whisked away to boarding school in a country where she doesn't even speak the language. The story spans her senior year

Writing Teen Romance

This thing is giving me fits

The thing I’m referring to is my latest manuscript. (Yes it’s a teen romance – because that’s all I write.) I’ve been so excited about working on it, but the sizzle is staring to fizzle. It’s like a puzzle. I know I have all the parts, but this puzzle has more than one way to solve the darned thing. I’ve outlined the story. All the plot points are working together so the story makes sense. But with quite a few chapters written, I’ve found a scene where the heroine (Callie) has a heart-to-heart

The Fergie Blitz

Fergie (aka @FergiePaws) is our almost two-year old Portuguese Water Dog. She’s a bundle of energy and fun. Yesterday morning while I was on a conference call she decided to do her morning blitz. Here’s a wonderful example of the Fergie Blitz: So this is what she's doing while I'm on my conference call, and it's my turn to speak. Uggh!! Luckily I work with people who have a great sense of humor and just laugh when it sounds like the carpet is being ripped up by Fergie racing circles between my
