Coming Down with a Terrible Case of Irritable Writer’s Syndrome

I know this has happened to you writers out there. You’re writing a scene that’s highly emotional or approaching the climax of the story. Your characters are almost to their low point, their black moment, all hope is lost. You are crushed for your characters. You have to keep writing…get them out of their quandary and into their happy ever after or happy for now. You have to Finish That Book! This condition does have a diagnosis. It’s called IWS, or Irritable Writer’s Syndrome. And not to be

A Book I Just Can’t Stop Thinking About

My current WIP is a contemporary YA. That said, I’m reading a lot of contemporary stuff of late. I went to the library to pick up a couple books and stumbled across this amazingly brilliant book… Stay With Me by Paul Griffin. The cover probably caught my eye or perhaps it was the title. I flipped it over to read the book blurb and loved the tag line… “Their lives weren’t easy. Neither was their love.” And yes – that about sums up the story. It’s a heart aching, bittersweet story of first love

Look What I Got for Christmas…

The watchband on my Timex broke at the end of October. Unfortunately, it’s one of those watchbands that require you to send it back to the manufacturer for repair. I had to do that with my Nike watch and they got it back to me super fast, but it’s an inconvenience nonetheless. So my husband asked what I wanted for Christmas and I said, a new running watch. I thought I’d find another Timex in my stocking. But nooooooo….. I got this… This image was downloaded from Amazon.com. Please see

Thoughts about welcoming in 2013

Yesterday we had a dreary January 1st. It rained all day and not just a couple spots of drizzle, it was a steady rain that made you want to curl up with a good book beside the fire. Or take a nap to sleep off the previous night’s revelry. My family and I decided a trip to Barnes & Noble was in order. I hadn’t been there in ages and forgot how much I love my favorite big box book store. I found four books I wanted within the first five minutes of browsing. I can’t tell you how much self restraint

12:12:12 - Once Century Symmetry

Yesterday, I was typing the date and realized that today would be the once-in-a-lifetime kind of date: 12-12-12. I think I like it better typed 12/12/12. Anywhoo, I got to thinking…why wasn’t I as fascinated when we had 11/11/11 or 10/10/10? My slight fascination started when I heard the story of Margie and Paul on The Bert Show, a local morning radio show here in Atlanta. (FYI -- The BEST one in Atlanta!!) Margie and Paul are an older couple who’ve been rekindled a romance after fifty-five

In Honor of National Cookie Day

It’s no secret – if it’s in the Brown Food Group, I love it. I believe my BFF made up that food classification in honor of yours truly. And what is in said Brown Food Group you may ask? Yup – anything “bready” and baked and bad for you in excessive quantities. I’ve been known to order French Toast and biscuits at Cracker Barrel and could go days without consuming a fruit or a veggie. Shhhhh! Don’t tell my mom… Although it seems like there’s a day for everything – I think National Cookie Day

Welcome December

This year has flown by. It seems that just a year ago I was setting up the Christmas tree and beginning the flurry of activities that happen in December. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I tend to go a little overboard. (Probably because I had no Christmas when I was little, but that’s a story for another day.) We used to put up two trees. One was an artificial tree so that we could have a tree up at the beginning of the month. Then mid-December, we’d head to the Christmas tree farm to cut
